Shirley J. Thompson

November 6, 1931 - February 25, 2022


Shirley J. Thompson, 90, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Capital Health Medical Center at Hopewell.


Born in La Porte Indiana, Shirley was married in Tucson, Arizona while her husband was in the Air Force. They moved to Groveville following her husband’s time in the service and resided there for nearly 60 years, before moving to Wrightstown. She enjoyed traveling across the country as military life took them to nearly every state. After their military life, she enjoyed continued trips with her family.


She was employed with the Hamilton Township School District and worked first in the cafeteria, then went on to drive school buses for special needs children up to her retirement. In recent years she resided in Florence with her granddaughter and her husband, and her three great grandchildren. She enjoyed Broadway musicals, watching old movies on Turner Classic Movies, playing Words With Friends, and keeping in touch with family near and far on Facebook. Most of all, she loved raising her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.


Predeceased by her parents, Charles and Helen (Guelzo) Buchner; her loving husband Robert F. Thompson; her children Charles Thompson, Gerald Thompson and Susan Nutret; her brothers Fred, Harold and Chuck Buchner, and sister Eileen Schaefer. She is survived by her children Linda Senf (George), Beth Thompson (Joy) and Keith Thompson (Donald); seven grandchildren, Christina (Mando), Jennifer (Brendan), Jason (Lisa), Stephan, Nicole, Robert (Katie), and Lauren (Joseph); many great-grandchildren, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.


Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, March 7, 2022, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the

Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville.


Burial will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery,

North Hanover Twp.
