Serafina DeSantis

February 3, 1939 - December 31, 2022

Serafina "Sadie" DeSantis, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022 in Brooklyn, NY.

Serafina was a warm, kind, caring, and giving soul. Serafina's father, Michael came to New York from Bari, Italy in 1911. Her mother, Antonia came to New York from Bari in 1936. She was the third of four children. Joseph, Beatrice, Serafina, and Caesar were raised in Little Italy. They were enrolled in Catholic school and attended mass every Sunday. Serafina was happily married for 63 years to her loving husband, Carmine. Sadie knew her husband before she started dating him because his family had a popular meat market in the neighborhood. He asked her out when he saw her at a small luncheonette in Little Italy called Dave's Corner. Sadie went out with some friends to get hot chocolate and Carmine couldn't take his eyes off of her. Sadie was a loving, caring mother to Dominick and Steven. She always went out of her way to make sure they had everything they wanted and more. Serafina always wanted to learn piano. When Steven told Sadie he wanted to learn, Sadie and Carmine bought a piano from a neighbor and had people help them bring it down the block. He still plays to this day thanks to her. Serafina was selfless. She loved to cook and bake for friends and family. Carmine helped her by grinding meat for her dishes since they were all from scratch. Serafina made her famous pizza for Steven's birthday parties. It was such a hit that she made it for Steven's friends' birthday parties as well. She was that kind of person. She treated everyone like family. Serafina was a caring mother-in-law to Jenny. Sadie always loved how Jenny made her laugh. She also loved how well Jenny takes care of her son, Steven. Sadie was thrilled that Jenny helped Steven become a successful accountant.

Sadie was also a loving aunt to Phillip, Lori, Ryan, and Jeffrey. They lived far away but loved to keep in touch often through video calls. She loved to cook and bake for them when they visited from Florida. Serafina is sorely missed by her friends and family.

Funeral services are private and under the direction of the Bulked-Merlino Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street in Hamilton.

Sadie,

We will miss you very much. You were such a loving aunt and spoiled our family endlessly with the best homemade food, coffee and your caring heart. You treated our kids like royalty. Ryan and Jeffrey did not want to come back home after staying in your home for a week. You spoiled them with love and attention. Thank you for being so lovely every time we spoke with you or visited. I thought for sure we would all be together one more time before anyone in the family passed away. I know you are our angel looking over all of us. WE LOVE YOU ALWAYS and we'll meet again!

Philip, Lori, Ryan and Jeffrey.
