July 28, 1955 - November 29, 2023
Robert J. Downs, 68, of Burlington passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong NJ area resident. Bob graduated from Bordentown Regional High School and went directly to work for Ocean Spray. He worked in many departments, being a jack of all trades, until retiring in 2015. In his younger years he played on a softball league. He was an avid watcher and fan of wrestling and was a huge Dallas Cowboy fan. Bob was a big jokester who loved to tell one liners, had a knack for telling a good story, and always remembered a good joke. He enjoyed spending time outside doing yard work with his wife DeeDee and loved spending time with his family. His greatest joys in life were watching his grandson Aiden race, and curling up in his recliner with his granddaughter, Lily reading books and making her laugh with such joy, he would also play pretend with her. His bond with his grandchildren was unbreakable and will continue through the memories they made together. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Predeceased by his parents, Robert Downs, Jr. and Mary (Prokopetz) Downs; and his mother-in-law, Dolores (Grace) Vanderipe; he is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Dolores “DeeDee” (Rasmussen) Downs; his daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Jeffrey Hall, and Danielle Downs and Charlie Spencer; his grandchildren, Aiden and Lilyanna; his beloved pets, Stormy the bird and Lovebug the cat; his sister, Susan (Bill) Fagans; stepfather-in-law, Robert “Bebop” Vanderipe; brothers-in-law, Bill (Karen) Rasmussen and Bob (Tammy) Rasmussen; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
