March 2, 1956 - July 26, 2021
Marianne Werkman, 65, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 26, 2021, at Waters Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Trenton.
Born in Trenton, NJ, she was a lifelong area resident.
Caring, colorful and above all genuinely kind to those she loved, Marianne was a cheerleader at McCorristin Catholic High School in her youth and later attended Montclair State University and Trenton State College, before ultimately teaching English in the Trenton School Systems. She had a passion for and impeccable taste in music, being particularly fond of Eric Clapton and the Beatles; indeed, she named her fist-born son Eric and taught us, “There are only two types of people in the world, Beatles fans or Elvis fans, choose one”. Marianne had an unrivaled sense of humor (occasionally reminding people to “never trust anyone over 30” throughout her life) and she loved spending time with her family. Always a deeply caring and compassionate soul, her loved ones received a hand-written note for every occasion without exception; even in the era of emails and 140-character missives, she never missed a birthday / anniversary / holiday / momentous occasion / deepest sympathies / thank you / you’re welcome card which included her own heartfelt, deeply personal and masterful touch. Her enormous heart, wit and infectious laugh will be sorely missed.
Predeceased by her parents, Nicholas, Jr., and Anna (Escher) Werkman, brothers, Mark and Philip Werkman; she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Malinda Werkman, and Keith Werkman / Yan Shen; brother, Nicholas Werkman III and his wife Harriet; grandchildren, Dylan Jackson and Hesper Werkman; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ, with local clergy officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Home.
Interment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton.
Memorial contributions may be made to The National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI PO Box 49104, Baltimore, MD 21297.

Marianne was a kind, warm soul. We went to Immaculate Conception grammar school together--where I had a crush on her in second grade (who didn't?!) and we played together at times when we were kids in Franklin Park. I wish every comfort in the world to her family, and I wish Marianne's bright mind and good heart peace in the world to come.
