March 7, 1939 - February 9, 2022
Joan D. Lavelle, of Trenton, went home to Jesus on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at age 82.
Born in Long Island, New York she was a longtime area resident who graduated from Princeton High School, and spent most of her adulthood living in Bordentown and Trenton.
She was an active member of St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish and contributed her talents to the faith community as part of the Lector Ministry. Joan was deeply spiritual and compassionate toward others, dedicating much of her time to various faith-sharing groups and attending religious retreats.
She provided many years of service as a clerk at the Hightstown Post Office and as an administrative assistant for the NJ State Chapter of the VFW. Joan was a longtime friend of Bill W. and enjoyed spending time mentoring others. She was an avid animal lover who also liked to travel, play guitar, read, and listen to music. Most of all, she found great comfort spending time in prayer, especially when surrounded by her family and friends. Joan will be fondly remembered by those she left behind for her kind eyes, her selfless giving, and her quick-witted sense of humor.
Predeceased by her parents, Frank and Rose (Mansue) Coakley, sister, Rosemary (Coakley) McCarthy, and brother, Frank Coakley; she is survived by her loving companion, Mary Louise Walsh; devoted son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christine Lavelle; adoring granddaughter, Morgan Lavelle, and caring grandson, Trevor Lavelle; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish, 3500 South Broad Street, Hamilton, 08610.
Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:45am until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, please celebrate Joan’s spirit by making a memorial contribution in her name to St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish, 3500 South Broad Street, Hamilton, 08610.
