June 9, 1936 – January 16, 2022
Janet Marie (Ufert) Hughes, 85, of Lawrenceville, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 16, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Trenton, she was a longtime area resident. She worked for and retired from the Mercer County Board of Social Services as a dedicated social case worker, and volunteered for the Board of Elections at polling locations during local elections. Some of her hobbies she enjoyed included traveling, shopping, photography, sewing and making dolls, and she was also an excellent ballroom dancer. Janet took part in many community theater productions and volunteered with the American Field Service by generously opening her home on multiple occasions to foreign exchange students. But most importantly, Janet’s greatest pleasure came from spending time with her loving family, especially her grandchildren, and her dogs Mandy, Beau, and Tory.
Predeceased by her parents, Leroy and Helen (Hoehn) Ufert, her first husband Ralph and second husband Charlie; she is survived by her 3 children, Dr. Ralph Wayman and his wife Georgeanne, Barbara Wayman and her husband Jim, and Edward Hughes and his wife Megahn; grandchildren, Brittany, Kyan, Ralph, Crosby and Bennett; as well as many other relatives and dear friends.

I worked with Janet for many years at the county and always considered it my good fortune to get to know her and her family. I have many memories of her at the office and out socially that just make me smile. She was one of a kind and her outlook on life should be bottled and passed around.
She gave me a Ufert Auto parts calendar many years ago that I have in my garage and still cherish to this day.
Condolences to the family and to all of us.

My deepest and profound condolences to Janet's family. She was a special lady and loved and so very proud of each of you. Below is a poem in her honor:
Janet was a special lady in my life
at a time that was needed and just right
Her temperament was cool and laid back
Seeming to never worry was a special knack
We had some fun on cruises, parties, and special events
She loved her family and work but would rarely vent
I can see her now at peace with all she has done
dancing with the stars and basking in the sun.
It is rare that one can claim they left this world in a better place
But Janet…
