James J. Minock, 93, of Yardville, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Anna Minock, brother John Minock, and sisters Ann Krause and Margaret Rakoci. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 70 years, JoanAnn Minock, his six children, Diane Hewitt, Joan Minock, James Minock, Michael Minock (Karen), Carol Blackwell (Mark), and Maryann Cenni (Anthony); twelve grandchildren, Elizabeth, Eric, Matthew, James, Stephanie, Michaela, Jacob, Thomas, Jason, Anthony, Nicholas, and Michael; and three great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Teodor, and Dakota; and sister, Rose May; as well as many other relatives, including his brother-in-law, Andrew Kovacs.
Growing up, Jim held various jobs including delivering laundry for Princeton Modern Laundry to Albert Einstein.
Jim proudly served as Sergeant 1st Class in the US Army, where he worked on tank infantry tactics and demolitions. Jim was honorably discharged in January 1953.
In April 1953, he met his “Sweetheart” JoanAnn Kovacs. Jim and Joan married in November 1954 and settled in Yardville to raise their family. Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jim held many positions during his successful career working for various railroads including Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, Conrail, and NJ Transit. He was well liked and respected by his coworkers. Jim retired in 1992 as a Car Inspector for NJ Transit after nearly 40 years of service.
Jim was known for his sizeable garden where he grew a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. He always generously shared his produce with family and friends. Many would joke that he was a full-time farmer and a part-time Railroader. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served as a Charter Member of the Yardville First Aid Squad for many years.
Jim and Joan traveled extensively visiting all of the United States, several countries in Europe and South America and enjoyed annual family vacations to Wildwood.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Church, 3500 S. Broad Street, Hamilton Township for all who wish to attend.
Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Brig.General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home.
Jim will be deeply missed and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family.
