Ismael Rivera, Sr., 89, of Trenton, passed away peacefully January 18, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Patillas, Puerto Rico, he moved to Florida in 1953, settling in New Jersey in 1955. He was the owner/operator of several deli’s in the Trenton area, and went on to work for Pathmark, retiring after more than 30 years of service. Ismael was a fun loving man who enjoyed telling jokes and on occasion pulling a good prank! His coastal roots carried through as he enjoyed visiting the Jersey beaches and fishing, creating fond memories. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Parx Casino, playing dominoes and cards, making sure he always had a winning hand. Most of all he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing and loving him.
Predeceased by his parents, Gregorio and Maria (Rodriguez) Rivera, siblings, Andini Rivera Peńa, Rafael Rivera, Carmelo Rivera and Manuel Rivera, and son-in-law Oscar Torres; he is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dolores (Gonzalez) Rivera; 4 children, son Ismael Rivera, Jr., daughters, Nancy Torres, Erleen Rivera, and Sandy Merlino and her husband Richard; brother Arturo Rivera; 6 grandchildren, Janeice (Joel), Justine, Eddie, Bianca, Richard, and Robbie; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler, Angelina, and Nathan; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 343 South Broad Street, Trenton, NJ 08608.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, January 23, 2022 from
3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at. the Yardville Home.
Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton.
