Irmgard Messineo

December 31, 1927 - April 6, 2022


Irmgard Messineo, 94, of Hamilton Township, peacefully passed away at home, on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Irma was born in Breslau Germany. In 1953, she emigrated to the United States from East Germany.


Upon arrival in the United States, she lived with her sister. Soon after, she worked in retail with her sister at Freedom Sales in Hamilton, and then later she worked at the American Cigar Factory in Chambersburg. Once married, she settled into her home in Hamilton Township, and became a fulltime homemaker. There she enjoyed having her own garden, from which she could make fresh meals, can jams, fruits and vegetables. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting, skills she learned in school as a child.


Over the years, she took many family trips by auto, traveling across the country seeing the sights, including Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest, the Painted Desert, Williamsburg, and St. Augustine. Locally, she enjoyed spending time at the New Jersey shore, and the NJ state parks. Over the years, she was able to visit her family in both Eastern and Western Germany. Later, she enjoyed cruising with her family to many destinations, including Alaska, Canada, New England, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.


Irma was the daughter of the late Walter and Hedwig (Bohn) Heimlich, of Germany. Until her passing she was the last surviving sibling of their 11 children.


She was the wife of the late Christopher Messineo and was predeceased by son-in-law, James Harris, grandson Wade Harris, and nephew Gene Greatti.


She is survived her daughters, Karin Harris, Christine Ferris, Susie Mahon, and husband Brian; her grandchildren, Shawn Harris, Crystal Armstrong, Casey Harris, and Sherry Mahon and her husband John; her great-grandchildren, Colby, and Wyatt Harris; Levi and Colt Armstrong, and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.


Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday April 22, from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. at the

Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville.


Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with local clergy officiating.


Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton.
