Gladys Rivera Mercado, de 70 años, de Trenton, falleció pacíficamente el jueves 16 de febrero de 2023 mientras estaba en casa rodeada de su amorosa familia.
Nacida y criada en Arecibo, Puerto Rico. En 1967 se mudó a Nueva York, y en 1980 se mudó a Old Bridge NJ. En 1988 se mudó al área de Trenton, NJ y estableció Lucky Star Deli, San Juan Café, Martino's Bar Deportivo y Gladys' Hair Design, todos negocios de propiedad y operación familiar. En su tiempo libre, disfrutaba de los viajes a Atlantic City y de su juego favorito era Blackjack. Pero más que nada en este mundo, la familia era lo más importante para Gladys. Le encantaba cocinar para ellos, organizar comidas navideñas y, en general, le encantaba pasar tiempo juntos. Gladys era una madre, abuela, hermana y amiga amorosa y será muy extrañada por todos los que la conocieron y la amaron.
Prefallecida por sus padres, Jesús y Segunda (Mercado) Rivera, hermanos, Miguel A. Rivera; y Carlos Rivera; su hermana, Matilde Rivera; y su cuñada, Lydia Rivera-Matías; le sobreviven sus 4 hijos, Alexsa Zayas (Santiago "Chago" Zayas), Sylvia Oquendo, Roselee Ruiz (José Ruiz) y Jesús E. Vélez (Johanna Taylor); su hermana, Angélica Rivera; nietos, Crystal Zayas, Jesús Zayas, Aaron Zayas, Charlotte Ruiz y Nathan Velez; así como muchas sobrinas, sobrinos, otros familiares y queridos amigos.
El velorio para familiares y amigos se llevará a cabo el martes 21 de febrero de 2023 de 3:30 p.m. a 5:30 p.m. en la Catedral de Santa María de la Asunción, 151 North Warren Street, Trenton, NJ 08608.
La misa de entierro cristiano se celebrará a las 5:30 p.m.
La familia organizará un tiempo de compañerismo y refrigerios inmediatamente después de la misa en el nivel inferior de la iglesia.
El entierro será privado y a conveniencia de la familia.
Los servicios están bajo la dirección de Buklad-Merlino Memorial Homes, Hamilton.

Gladys Rivera Mercado, 70, of Trenton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2023 while at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. In 1967 she moved to New York, and in 1980 moved to Old Bridge, NJ. In 1988 she relocated to Trenton, NJ and established Lucky Star Deli, San Juan Café, Martino's Sports Bar, and Gladys’ Hair Design, all family owned and operated businesses. In her spare time, she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City to play her favorite game Blackjack. But more than anything in this world, family was most important to Gladys. She loved to cook for them, host holiday meals, and overall loved spending time together. Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Predeceased by her parents, Jesus and Segunda (Mercado) Rivera, brothers, Miguel A. Rivera; and Carlos Rivera (Lydia Rivera-Matias); and her sister, Matilde Rivera; she is survived by her 4 children, Alexsa Zayas (Santiago “Chago” Zayas), Sylvia Oquendo, Roselee Ruiz (Jose Ruiz), and Jesus E. Velez (Johanna Taylor); her sister, Angelica Rivera; grandchildren, Crystal Zayas, Jesus Zayas, Aaron Zayas, Charlotte Ruiz, and Nathan Velez; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m at Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, 151 North Warren Street, Trenton, NJ 08608.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m.
The family will host a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following the mass in the lower level of the church.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Services are under the direction of the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Homes, Hamilton.

My condolences to the family. Mrs. Glady has known me since I was a little kid. She had a sweet and kind spirit.
