Donald Cermele, 86, of Ewing passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Trenton Catholic High School class of 1954. He went on to college at St. Joe’s and upon graduation, Don enlisted in the US Army, having proudly served his Country as a Military Policeman. He worked as Director of Systems for The NJ Dept. of Labor, retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. Don was a longtime member of the Lawrence American Legion, Post 414 where he served as Commander, and was honored with the Citizen of the Year award for outstanding community service. He was a volunteer firefighter for Lawrence Road firehouse for many years and served as the Athletic Director for Lawrence American Legion Baseball. In his spare time, he enjoyed softball, golf and bowling.
Predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Emily Cermele and his sister, Lois; he is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mona (Vaccaro) Cermele; his daughters, Diane Cermele, and Donna Longo and her husband Joe; 3 grandchildren, Noah, Jordan, and Aaron as well as many other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville, with local clergy officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m until time of service at the Yardville Memorial Home.
Burial with honors will follow at the Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, North Hanover Twp., NJ.
