Remembering the Vibrant Life of Chenise "Nissie" Jones
Chenise "Nissie" Jones was a unique individual with a larger-than-life personality. Sadly, on October 9, 2023, she passed away suddenly at the age of 64, just 21 days before her 65th birthday. Born in Trenton, NJ on October 30, 1958, Chenise was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. Her passion for playing the piano was evident from a young age, as she attended school in the Trenton School District.
As an adult, Chenise was beloved by her nieces and nephews, who spent countless hours at her home on Gardner Avenue. She was an accomplished cook and enjoyed dancing and singing in her free time. Whenever there was a special occasion, she would bake her famous upside-down pineapple cake from scratch. Although she tried to pass down the recipe, her nieces could never quite replicate her delicious dish. Chenise's favorite song was "When I See You" by Fantasia, which she would sing during the family's annual beach house trips. While Chenise's professional career revolved around caregiving, she was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family. Coming from a small community, she was cherished by those who knew her. Chenise left behind a loving family.
While she was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffery "Buster" Porter, and father, Harold G. Jones, Senior, she is survived by her son, Jamar Xavier Koon of Florida; her grandson, Jason of Maryland; her mother, Ruby T. Westcott of Hamilton, NJ; and her two older brothers, Carl Jones and Carole M. Anton and Harold “Hassan” and Vicky Jones. Chenise will always be remembered and cherished by her former sisters-in-law, Deborah Jones and Dora “Peaches” Jones, as well as her special friend, Herbert Lee Thompson.
Chenise is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including Andre (Phoebe) Mack, Teheran (Brenda) Jones, Tashieka Brewer, the Honorable Summer Jones, Ormar “Knowledge” Morris, Dionne Jones, Jameel Jones, Nevaeh Jones, Tre Jones, Olivia Jones and Machiavelli Jones; along with many great-nieces and great-nephews. Her spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Gathering for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm
at the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street, 2141 South Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ 08610.

NEECY had the biggest smile whenever I came to NJ. She would always yell my name and come give me a big hug whenever she saw me. No matter what, she never lost that big smile during the 50+ years I've known her. She will always bring fond memories and a smile when I think of her. Part of my extended family 💞
