Cecelia Gallagher Briel, 93, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she moved to the Trenton area in her early 20’s and then moved to Hamilton Twp. in 1952. Cecelia worked as a waitress in Princeton, NJ, and at The Famous Diner in Trenton, NJ. She enjoyed yard sales, music, politics, bingo, swimming at the Hamilton YMCA and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at the Hibernians. She was a parishioner of St. Raphael-Holy Angels Church and, for many years, was a member of the Hamilton YMCA Active Older Adults program and the Hamilton Senior Center. She spent many Sundays at the former McCorristin High School flea market. Most of all she loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents, Michael and Cecelia (Hone) Gallagher, her husband, John Henry Briel, grandson, Shannon Fenton, and son-in-law, Samuel Fenton; she is survived by her 4 daughters, Patricia Veintimilla of Hamilton; Jacqueline Briel-Fenton of Lewes, Del; Cecelia Leto (Robert) of Hamilton and Lewes; and Jean Briel of Yardley, PA, who was also her best friend; 7 grandchildren, Amy Franco, James Veintimilla, Cecelia Takach, Christopher Lewis (Lynne), Michael Gilligan, Ryan Gilligan (Janne) and Shaun Fenton (Lisa); 5 great grandchildren, Christopher Lewis, Madyson Lewis, Kyle Takach, Robert Hernandez, and Riley Fenton Allen; nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish, 3500 South Broad Street, Hamilton.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, December 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street, Hamilton.
There will be no services at the funeral home Thursday morning.
All guests should go directly to church.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
